Session Outline

Understanding what an assignment is asking you to do is a key step towards academic success. In this session, you'll learn how to interpret assessment briefs, understand the purpose of referencing, and develop confidence in academic integrity. You'll gain practical guidance on meeting university expectations, avoiding common pitfalls, and producing work you can be proud of.

Who is this session for?
The Learning Essentials series is for students new to higher education (e.g. Foundation Year or Year 1) or returning to study after a break. These beginner-friendly workshops help you build confidence, develop essential study skills, and learn about available support before moving on to more specialist guidance from the library’s learning skills teams. You can attend all four sessions or choose the ones that suit you.

In-person Session:
This session will take place in UL110 in the main University Library. Please arrive on time. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your booking as soon as possible so your place can be offered to another student. The Library Customer Service team can direct you to the room, just ask at reception, or you can use the library building map at Navigate-Me to find your way.
