Session Outline

Understanding what an assignment is asking you to do is a key step towards academic success. In this session, you'll learn how to interpret assessment briefs, understand the purpose of referencing, and develop confidence in academic integrity. You'll gain practical guidance on meeting university expectations, avoiding common pitfalls, and producing work you can be proud of.

Who is this session for?
The Learning Essentials series is for students new to higher education (e.g. Foundation Year or Year 1) or returning to study after a break. These beginner-friendly workshops help you build confidence, develop essential study skills, and learn about available support before moving on to more specialist guidance from the library’s learning skills teams. You can attend all four sessions or choose the ones that suit you.

Online session:
This session will be delivered online via Microsoft Teams. You’ll receive the link to join in the confirmation email. When the session is due to start, click on the link and sign in using your University student email address and password (if you are not already logged into Teams). During the session, you'll be able to ask questions and take part using the chat and Q&A features, making it easy to engage wherever you're studying.
